Our History

FEMME FATALE LUXURY CANDLES WAS FOUNDED IN 2006 ITHE SPARE BEDROOM OF MY APARTMENT. I WANTED TO MAKE SOMETHING  BY HAND  FOR MY COWORKERS FOR CHRISTMAS  GIFTS AND DECIDED TO TRY MY HAND AT MAKEING SOY CANDLES SINCE I LOVE  THEM SO MUCH. THE FIRST CANDLE I EVER MADE WAS A cOCONUT LEMONGRASS CANDLE, I CHOSE DIFFERENT FRAGRANCES FOR MY COWORKERS AND GAVE THEM AS GIFTS.  EVERYONE WAS SO IMPRESSED AND EXCITED AND WANTED MORE, THEY ASED IF I MADE THEM BEFORE AND IF I SOLD THEM. THEY WERE SUCH A HIT I DECIDED TO MAKE MORE AND START SELLING THEM. THE PAGAGING HAS COME A LONG WAY, ALL BY TRIAL AND ERROR . I CREATED THESE LUXURY SOY CANDLES FOR EVERYONE TO ENJOY!

The Benefit of Burning Soy Candles

Soy vs Paraffin Candles

Using soy wax candles is a great way to help our environment and our farmers!

Unlike paraffin wax, natural soy wax comes from right here in the USA from our own soybean farmers.

So in addition to using a completely natural soy wax that is safe for you, is a renewable, sustainable resource, and gives us a little less dependence on crude oil, it also helps our own US economy by helping our farmers.

You’ll also find that soy candles burn up to twice as long as paraffin candles. For example, my soy tealights burn from 7-8 hours! Compare that to a normal paraffin tealight that only burns for 4 hours at most (believe me, I’ve tested!). This is because soy wax has a much lower melting point and in turn, burns cooler than paraffin wax.

So even though soy candles might be more expensive, they burn up to twice as long as regular candles so it actually evens out and you really aren’t spending much more for a better quality candle.

You see, Ali-san, it’s pretty straightforward. Unless you dig indoor air pollution, choose soy.

Here are the major differences between the two types of wax.

Paraffin Wax

  • Was discovered in 1850.
  • It is a natural product derived from the components of decayed animal and plant material.
  • Made by removing the waxy substance from crude oil.
  • Most popular kind of wax used in candle making.
  • Easy to use.
  • It is a non-toxic, colorless, clean-burning fuel.
  • Has a clearly defined large crystal structure and a melt point usually between 120-160 degrees.
  • Tends to be hard and brittle.

Soy Wax

  • Was discovered in 1991 as an alternative to paraffin wax.
  • It is a natural, renewable, non-toxic and biodegradable wax.
  • It is a hydrogenated form of soybean oil.
  • It is available in flake form and has an off-white appearance.
  • Soy wax has a lower melting point than paraffin.
  • Commercial soy wax blends tend to be softer than paraffin and will melt in warm weather.
  • Burns longer and at a cooler temperature than paraffin wax.
